ABOUT JUDGE MILLS

Judge Michael P. “Chip” Mills, Jr. has served as your Circuit Court Judge since being appointed to fill a judicial vacancy on Mississippi’s First Circuit Court by Governor Reeves on March 2, 2020.

Prior to his appointment, Judge Mills had a diverse law practice, both as a private practitioner and as a public servant, that routinely put him before Mississippi’s various state courts.

As a private practitioner in the City of Fulton, he provided legal counsel for a wide array of clients — including local folks as well as banks, medical clinics, and small businesses.  As a board attorney he provided legal guidance to several municipalities located within the First Circuit Court District.

Judge Mills also has substantial criminal trial experience, including many years of public service as an Assistant District Attorney for the First Circuit Court District, County Prosecutor for Itawamba County, and Municipal Prosecutor for multiple municipalities.  He has prosecuted felony crimes in all seven counties of this district.

Judge Mills knows the First District and the impact the courts have on our communities. His personal and professional experiences uniquely qualify him to serve you on the First Circuit Court.

“I am a dedicated husband, father, and Christian. Jada and I are blessed to be the parents of two active young boys. We proudly serve and worship at Fulton Methodist Church.”

Judge Mills grew up in Monroe and Itawamba counties attending their public schools.  After graduating from Itawamba Agricultural High School he earned engineering and law degrees from the University of Mississippi, where he was also a walk-on member of the football team.

The Mills family resides in Fulton where his wife, Dr. Jada Mills, is a Division Chair and Biology Instructor at Itawamba  Community College.  When their two boys, Luke, 10, and Levi, 8, are not in school they stay active playing youth sports and finding good fishing holes.
